Ride a Panda

Add this to the things I Wish I had when I was a kid. This robotic panda can be rented to use for a child’s birthday party. However, if I lived in the Carolinas, I’d rent one for mine and I’m 28! How fun!

A Panda to Warm Your Heart

This little berber panda will warm your heart, and your body! It’s been freezing here lately and this would be a perfect companion for those chilly nights. He’s filled with natural whole corn and holds the heat (or cold if you freeze him) for over an hour. Just pop him in the microwave and he’s toasty and ready to relieve sore muscles or just keep you warm. Best? He’s lightly scented with the aroma of popcorn. Yum!

Happy 35th Birthday TaoTao!

Yesterday, October 28th, was TaoTao’s 35th birthday. TaoTao is a female giant panda located at the Jinan Zoo in China, and is the oldest living panda known!

The average life span of giant panda is about 25 years old. Zoologists say Tao Tao’s age is equal to that of a 100 year-old human being. Tao Tao is sluggish with cataract and cardiac disease but has a good appetite.

Krümmel cake

Here’s an adorable photo of Schönbrunn Zoo‘s little Krümmel. Voting for his official name is still open on their German site, however it seems that Fu Long will most likely be the winning moniker.

Father of Pandas

Zhang Hemin

There’s a nice article on Zhang Hemin, the chief of Wolong Nature Reserve, also known as the father of pandas on China.org.cn. His research and creative problem solving has helped pandas successfully breed in captivity. He found that the panda’s emotions and feeling of security was directly related to their breeding patterns.

Experiencing failure after failures, finally Zhang recognized that the biggest obstacle to propagation is pandas’ emotion. He requested the staff take care of pandas 24/7 and communicate with them while feeding. He said, “Pandas are similar to humans that once they feel nervous they will secrete irregularly and fall sick.”

Also, that photo of him makes me smile. He’s almost as adorable as the pandas!

It’s Not Easy Being Cuddly

Once again, some idiot jumped into GuGu’s enclosure at the Beijing Zoo. Last year it was a drunken man who wanted to hug him, this year it was a teenage boy who was ‘just curious’. As with any animal, including humans, when frightened a panda will protect himself any way he deems necessary.

Unfortunately for GuGu there seems to be an abundance of dumb humans who want to cuddle him.

Poor GuGu, he just wants to be left alone.

Funkey Pandas

No, that’s not a typo, there really are Funkey pandas. The newest craze for younger kids is an interactive computer toy called U.B Funkeys, and they happen to have a cute collectible panda species.

Funkeys are small, colorful characters that inhabit Funkeytown, in a virtual world called Terrapinia. Players navigate a number of zones and portals where they play games to earn coins. With their coins they can buy items to customize their homes, referred to as “cribs” in the game. Each Funkey acts like a key that grants access to new zones in the game. Users progress through the game as they collect different figures.

The starter kit and individual Funkeys are available almost everywhere toys are sold. Online, they’re available at Amazon from $5 to $50 dollars.

Panda TV

Unfortunately I’ve been unable to find this amazingly adorable panda TV for sale anywhere. AVING featured this panda shaped television on their site late last year, but that’s all the info I could find. His nose is the on/off button and the volume and channel controls are on his paws. Even though the huge CRT TVs are getting phased out, I wouldn’t mind having this one! If you have any information on where we can find this TV for sale, please let us know!

The Tiniest Panda Portrait

Viewing portrait

Jin Yin Hua is an amazing artist. However, to appreciate his art you need a microscope with the ability to magnify a strand of hair 50,000 times. The artist used a single rabbit hair to paint a panda portrait onto a human hair. See more of his work at www.worldartmiracle.com.
