Panda Mathematics?

Panda Math

(One panda) + (one panda) = three pandas

At least that’s the kind of panda math we like to see! I’m a mechanical and aerospace engineering major with a minor in mathematics, so I realize I’m one of those odd people that actually loves math. (Please direct all hate mail to: mathlover@perfectpandas.com) I think this book may just help future generations love math, too. People who love math are almost as rare as a panda, maybe with more books like this one we can change that.

Panda Math is a fun way to get kids to think of math in a different way. The book is focused on subtraction and the inside front cover pretty much explains it all:

Hua Mei and her brother, Mei Sheng, spend their days climbing on logs, lounging in trees and eating bamboo. A lot of the things the pandas do can be thought of in terms of subtraction – from how many hours they’re awake to how much they poop!

Come meet the famous panda babies, Hua Mei and Mei Sheng, and along the way you can learn about subtraction.

Things I Want Right NOW!

Ultimate Panda DVD

This deserved it’s own post, as it is quite possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. .

Meet Xiao Lei Lei, Xiao Ying Ying, Xiao Pang Mei, and Xiao 21, four panda cubs born at China’s Wolong Conservation Center. These guys are not camera shy. Renowned photojournalist Gerry Ellis filmed the cubs and their older relatives over a 3-year period on location at the Wolong Center.

Ultimate Pandas is a DVD for only $12.95 filled with 90 minutes of panda-y goodness. I watched the promo video three times! And, the songs? Adorable.

Pandas Gigantes in Madrid Zoo

The two newest residents of the Madrid Zoo went on public exhibit for everyone to see last Friday, September 28th. Bing Xing (Star of Ice), 7 years, and Hua Zui Ba (Flowery Mouth), 4 years, arrived in Spain on September 8 on a goodwill gesture loan from China’s Chengdu Research Facility. They are currently housed in an air-conditioned pagoda and garden specially built for them at the zoo. The Madrid Zoo’s last panda, Chu Lin the first panda born in captivity in Europe, died in 1996 at the age of fourteen.

China sent their little goodwill ambassadors off in style with a celebration. Hundred of school children joined in the farewell.

Farewell!
