The two newest residents of the Madrid Zoo went on public exhibit for everyone to see last Friday, September 28th. Bing Xing (Star of Ice), 7 years, and Hua Zui Ba (Flowery Mouth), 4 years, arrived in Spain on September 8 on a goodwill gesture loan from China’s Chengdu Research Facility. They are currently housed in an air-conditioned pagoda and garden specially built for them at the zoo. The Madrid Zoo’s last panda, Chu Lin the first panda born in captivity in Europe, died in 1996 at the age of fourteen.
China sent their little goodwill ambassadors off in style with a celebration. Hundred of school children joined in the farewell.
After a long journey, the pandas finally arrived in Spain and were given a few weeks to adjust to their new surroundings before being put on exhibit.
On the 19th, Spain’s Queen Sofia came to see the cute couple.
Bing Xing was seen wandering around, but Hua Zui Ba wasn’t photographed, she must have been snoozing.
It seems Hua Zui Ba is a shy little girl; I can’t find any good photos of her. In the video below Bing Xing is munching on some bamboo before leaving Chengdu, and we get a glimpse of little Hua Zui Ba at the end. Hopefully she’ll become more photogenic soon, she’s a cutie!
